Greece the Hellenic Republic is a country in southeastern Europe, situated on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula. It has borders with Albania, Bulgaria and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the north, and Turkey to the east. The Aegean Sea lies to the east and south of mainland Greece, while the Ionian Sea lies to the west. Both parts of the Eastern Mediterranean basin feature a vast number of islands, for which Greece is very well known same as for the variation of the natural landscape.

Greece lies at the juncture of Europe, Asia and Africa. It is heir to the heritages of ancient Greece, the Roman and Byzantine Empires and nearly four centuries of Ottoman rule.Lately Greece became very famous since Hollywood occupied a big part in its movies development promoting ancient Greece like a combination of the Greek culture and the mythology...”Alexander The Great”, “Troy”, “ 300” and others... 

Greece is the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, the Olympic Games, Western literature and historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles, and Western drama including both tragedy and comedy.

• Time: Greek time is GMT plus two hours.

 

• Language: Modern Greek is the national language but the biggest percent of gay and lesbians in all big cities and on the islands speak English.

• Currency/Exchange: The Greek unit of currency is Euro.

• Passport: You‘ll need a valid passport (or a valid EU id if you are citizen of the European Union) to enter Greece. Check with the nearest consulate to see if you may also need a visa.

• Electricity: In Greece, you will find electrical current at 220 volts, 50- cycle AC.

• International credit cards: Are accepted in the majority of restaurants and shops.

• Banks: They are open Mon-Fri from 08.00 to 14.30 (except Friday when they close at 14.00) for exchanging money.

• Age of consent: 16 for everyone but 18 for gay men.

• Laws: There is no official recognition of civil partnership. In June 2008 there were two marriages carried out by the mayor of Tilos, which are now in court as the state challenges their legality.

• HIV/AIDS: Government policy does not discriminate against visitors, who are HIV+ or have the AIDS virus, therefore entry will not be refused. Ensure all prescription medicines are carried in their original containers and clearly marked, together with a letter from your doctor stating that these are your prescribed drugs.
